July 3rd 2009 – CALGARY – The Alzheimer’s Innovation Institute of Calgary today announced that John Ashby, founder of the Alzheimer’s Innovation Institute has been invited to speak in Columbus, Georgia July 16th and 17th.  The presentations will take place at Covenant Woods Senior Retirement Community on the 16th and Spring Harbor Continuing Care Community on the 17th.

“We have discovered through research over the past four years that our structured program of brain exercises produces substantial, measurable improvement in cognitive functioning for people with mild cognitive impairment, memory problems and early stages of dementia,” John Ashby, founder of the Alzheimer’s Innovation Institute, said Thursday.

“This is a significant breakthrough as, until now, there has been no treatment – drug or otherwise – that has demonstrated a sustained improvement in the senior population with these issues.”

The Ashby Memory Method therapy starts to show measurable improvement in as little as 8 weeks, improving people’s all-important quality of life. Participants’ standard memory scores also increased by an average of 12.5% - more than two full points – in a one-year field trial, while two years later, participants are still ahead of where they were cognitively when they started the brain training program, said Ashby. That has allowed many to remain living independently longer.

Freedom Home Care of Columbus offers the AMM program through staff Certified AMM Facilitators trained in the program. “Freedom Home Care is taking an active role in bringing Mr. Ashby to Columbus together with Covenant Woods and Spring Harbor. We think the program has tremendous value for our aging population and that inviting Mr. Ashby to speak will really help get the message out that there is help for seniors with cognitive problems and that there are important resources and supports available right here in Columbus.”
